The aft rail is only supported by the fact tha the 2" pvc tubes are bolted tightly to the top and bottom rail.
We need some add support from the outsde of the tube down to the wood trim piece.
I priced all the options and found that any metal I used would be expensive. Thanks to FJB metal has gone to more then double in cost.
Aluminum which is the best choice because it will not rust but the cost is prohibitive. My next best choice is PVC pipe. Surprising how strong it is and it can be shaped by heat.
I am going to mount 4 on each side.
Once they are fitted they will be painted gold and served with marlines twine.

As you can see there is no lateral support for the uprights.

Cut 3/4" PVC schedule 40 to 16" then mark back 2 inches on each end and mark it for the cut-outs

Heat form the ends, one rounded to fit the tube, the other flat to fit the wood trim.

Whale's tail pattern on the flattened end. |
This is curved to fit and will be riveted to the 2" stanchion. |
