Wood Repair - 2022

Wood took a beating 10 months in the Washington weather.
The left chain plate gungeon had major dry rot. My neighbor Carl in the Shi Bui removed all the rot. Now to apply rot repair in the small grooves, around the bolts and install a new piece of wood. I took out another chunk to make sure I got all the bad wood, and prepared the area for new wood.

Took about 4 hours to fit in a new piece. Thanks to my friend Colleen and her super fold up table saw I was able to cut a nice straight line. Glued in and ready for fairing out and Cetoling

Ready for Cetol All done !

This is the port rail the main hatch slides on. Major delamination. All done.

A little tear in the canvas and away it goes. Found this rot on the starboard side just behind the brow. Instead of removing the complete bad piece of plywood I am trying some rot repair stuff from West Marine. They say to drill holes and fill it up with the goop. Supposed to kill the bacteria and seals it for good. We'll see when it's all done. If it does work it will save a lot of time in the future. All done !

What can I say about the brow.. only sanded it about 5 times so far. Bristol Finish de-laminated all over. Here you can see a lot of moisture was allowed into the wood grain. Should sue the bastards.

Sanded and ready for Cetol. Done !

The dorade boxes suffered from Bristol Finish delamination, as did most of the wood work. They look great after Gnettie oiled them.
