Stanchions - 2022

Last season while actually working with the boat, the stanchions were way too high to work with. We could not lean over them and tie lines off to the stanchion brackets.

  • The solution will be to cut 6.5 inches off each one and top them off with new 3D printed stanchion tops.
  • Build new stanchions to take the place of the wood dowels we used for proof of concept.
  • Then we'll replace tie wraps that hold the netting with marlines twine.

We used a wood dowel temporarily to see how it would work on the opening. Pretty crappy looking.. but wait..

I cut 4, 19" lengths of 1/2" & 5/8" aircraft aluminum tubing, stuck one inside the other and secured them with wrist pins. I also used a wrist pin to hold the stanchion top in place. I then served them up with gaffer's tape and marline twine. Next I'll coat them with Brion Toss's sauce.

First one !
I assumed that they were all the same height when cutting down from the top 6.5 inches.. One came out 3/4" too low ! Yikes ! Now I have to measure 20.25" up from the rail for them to be even.

All done!
