Engine Start Procedure: New Thermostat; Fuel system - clean and inspect: fill with fluids:start engine.
Remember this picture from last year. The thermostat was a 170 degree and I thought I could use it, but I talked to my friend Dave Aller and found out it is too cold. So the hunt was on for a new 180 degree thermostat to fit in the 63mm hole. All new thermostats are 54 mm wide. Same confusing shit.
Got with Joe at Northwest Power Systems and he found an adaptor back East. I received the adaptor ring and low an behold it was a 67mm to 63mm adaptor and it came with a 63mm thermostat, something I thought they didn't make anymore. I did another Google search and now a whole bunch of 63mm thermostats are available. Why didn't they show up before? Amazon search engine did not find "63 mm" but it does find "063 mm". F&*K !!!! This cost me hours of time and tribulation.
Now to take the engine apart again !
Dave and Cleata Aller came for a visit to give me a hand with starting the engine. Dave discovered that the fuel system pickup tubes inside the tank were leaking and causing air to get in the lines. Me.. I would have never figured that out. Thank You Dave.
Here is Dave in his favorite spot, in the bilges.
We also pumped all the sludge from the bottom of both fuel tanks. Then I started to polish the fuel from the port to starboard tank.
Video of engine start ! Hey the prop even turned the right way..
We thought that the fuel tank pick-up tubes are leaking air, but it turned out to be the valves I was using. I was using water valves and I found out the expensive way that they leak under a vacuum. The valve on the left is the new fuel valve that works. From here I can dial up which tank is the source and which tank is the destination. I can pump from from the starboard tank, clean it and pump into the port tank.
The control to the left is the speed control of the transfer pump.
Here is a picture of the inside of the empty port tank. Just a large layer of black shit on the bottom.
Here is the completed fuel system with transfer pump for polishing the fuel. Picture shown with engine running. The gauges will go into the red arc when a filter gets plugged up.
