Step one is to plane the logs flat on the top and the bottom.
These logs sat around for over 30 years, so they are nice and dry. |
Here are a few flattened on the top and the bottom ready for ripping. |

First step in ripping, take off the tongue and grooves. These strips will be used for trim because they will bend easy around all the curves. |
Here they are all ripped. Now to plane them so they are all the same thickness. |

Now the Grizzly planer comes into service. We need to take off about 1/32 " at a time, so this means a heck of a lot of times through the planer. Then I have to keep measuring so they end up all the same thickness. |
