Ripping and Planing Red Cedar - 2008

Step one is to plane the logs flat on the top and the bottom.
These logs sat around for over 30 years, so they are nice and dry.
Here are a few flattened on the top and the bottom ready for ripping.

First step in ripping, take off the tongue and grooves. These strips will be used for trim because they will bend easy around all the curves. Here they are all ripped. Now to plane them so they are all the same thickness.

Now the Grizzly planer comes into service. We need to take off about 1/32 " at a time, so this means a heck of a lot of times through the planer. Then I have to keep measuring so they end up all the same thickness. Here they are all ready to put in the boat as "ceilings"
