My friend of 34 years Norm Wollbold, is a master carpenter and happened to have a few days off and decided to give a hand on the Sharon Rose. I welcome all volunteers for boat building is a lonely endeavor.(Norm was my flight instructor back in 1970) | |
We took a sheet of mahogany plywood from the pile and Norm started his magic. | First sizing up of the side pieces. |
The teak top fitted into place. This piece will receive the the top window frames and has a compicated groove cut down the length to trap and get rid of the water. | Here is the master overseeing his work. |
Here is a close up of the top teak piece being glued into place. We put the shim in underneath to allow the window frames to sit tight against lip to create a seal. | Here we are gluing it up. |
The window frames glued together. | A window frame cetoled and the plastic window installed. |
Here's Norm holding up the bronze rail frame. This keeps the crew from stepping directly on the window. | Here is the finished bronze rail frame put on the window frame to see what it looks like it. |
A finished frame ready to be cetoled. | The hatch all assembled and ready to be set on the deck!! |
The hatch in it's new home, on the aft
deck. |

Thank You Norm!! |
