Aft Cabin Interior - 2004

Updated October 27th 2004
Now that all the outside work is finally done we can start on the interior. So we are starting with the Aft Cabin.
I am using strips of hardboard (masonite) to create the forms for the ribs. Then I use bondo and apply fillets along the edges because Fiberglass does not like to bend at 90 degrees. Fiberglass will be layed over these to forms to 1/2 hull thickness.
Here is the view looking aft. I have the ribs trailing away from the rudder post for more strength. The odd board you see to the right of the rudder post is the support for the hydraulic steering cylinder. Here is the starboard side all ready to be glassed.

Here is the port side all ready to be glassed. Here is a close-up of the rudder post.

Here is the port side with the first layer of glass installed. 1 Layer of Mat and 1 layer of Roving. This works takes about 8 hours per side. The starboard side first layer complete. The next step is to sand this all down to get rid of any spikes or loose glass fibers and then install 1 Mat, 1 Roving, and then 1 Mat to finish it off. Should be able to do this all in one step.
