Pilot House - 2001

Here's the diesel cabin heater installed and ready to keep us warm. It sits right next to the companion way. The area to the left of the heater will a area for our wet rain gear. The floor will be ceramic tile. Here's the control center, or helm in ship's lingo. As you can see the ships hydraulic steering pump is in. This has to be plumbed via hydraulic hose to the rear rudder control. The slanted portion will hold all the engine gauges and controls. On the left side will be all the fuses and electric controls for the ship. There are 2 bilge pump controls mounted there already.

This is how the interior is installed. All the wood for the interior work is MDO board. It has more layers of ply and it has a real smooth coating on both sides It is used for making signs so it is all exterior grade. First I insulate the walls then cover them with 1/2" MDO board as shown. Then it all gets covered with white Formica. I built 2 floors this year. Remember the old adage, "If a job is worth doing it's worth doing it twice. Actually that's been my adage since I've been working on this project. We tried a 1/2" floor but it was too flimsy. When we walked on it sagged a little . So I tore it all out and used 3/4" Once we get the Perga laid overtop the floors they will be a full 1" thick.

Here is a view looking at at the entrance to the aft cabin. All the openings for access to storage in behind the walls, etc. will be covered by these oak cabinet doors. Excuse all the plastic, but it keeps it clean while we're still making dust everywhere. The rope covered pipe is the air intake for under the floor of the pilot house. It provides the air necessary to run the engine. here will also be one on the other side for the air to go out. Outside on the top of the pilot house will be Dorade boxes which will funnel the air below, and suck it out depending on which way they are facing..

This is the raised floor for the settee with the access cover removed. The floor is raised about 15" to allow the seat to be high enough so when you are eating or drinking beer you can look out all the windows for a 360 degree view.
